Extension cord safety

Extension cords can be a convenient solution for providing power in areas where outlets are not easily accessible. However, it's important to follow certain safety guidelines to prevent electrical hazards. Here are some tips for extension cord safety:

1. Choose the right extension cord: Ensure that the extension cord you use is appropriate for the intended purpose. Consider factors such as the cord's length, gauge (thickness of the wire), and the power requirements of the devices you plan to connect. Using an extension cord with a lower gauge (thicker wire) can handle higher wattage and provide better protection against overheating.
   
2. Inspect the cord: Before use, carefully examine the extension cord for any signs of damage such as frayed wires, exposed conductors, or cracked insulation. Using a damaged cord can lead to electrical shocks or fires, so if you notice any issues, replace the cord immediately.
   
3. Don't overload the cord: Each extension cord has a maximum capacity or amp rating.
